Update: AU Sends 7,500 Troops After Boko Haram:

Two days ago, Chad; Nigeria’s neighbor, ousted Boko Haram from their entrenched location in and around the village of Baga, Nigeria, where they were responsible for one of the worst massacres of the year.  They did so with troops and warplanes, according to the Associated Press and reported by the MSN.

Africa’s EU reported that African leaders have agreed to send 7,500 troops to fight the Boko Haram insurgency in northeast Nigeria, largely coordinated by Chad and Camaroon, much to the embarrasment of the Nigerian military.  Maybe if you spent more time protecting people and less time dreaming of lost tyrannies and shaking down the locals, eh guys?

The move comes shortly before Nigeria is set to hold their hotly contested Feb. 14 elections, where President Goodluck Jonathan seeks another term, and has the support of both the U.S. and Iran (about time you paid attention guys).  Maybe finally some effective action will be taken against this group.  If only ‘someone’ (Nigerian military and police, nudge, nudge…) had done something to address their concerns before Boko Haram whacked-out and turned completely violent.

Go get em. boys.
